The fixtures list for 2025 can be viewed below. Entries for 2025 are now being accepted and MUST be entered via the online entry forms, with entry fees paid at time of entry.
ENTRIES FOR THE SCOTTISH GOLF SENIORS OPEN AT MONTROSE IN 2025 ARE MADE VIA THE SCOTTISH GOLF LTD WEBSITE AND NOT THROUGH SSGS www.scottishgolf.org/national-competitions
Prospective new members to the Society can play in one event (provided spaces available) prior to joining.
For Super Senior events only, non SSGS members can play in super seniors open, Super Seniors Masters and 1 other super senior event prior to joining the society. If you wish to play in more events, including our non-super senior events then society membership fees are applicable, annual subscription of £25 for existing members and £45 for new members must accompany 1st entry submitted. Maximum handicap for super senior events only is 15.4
All prizes earned will be paid by vouchers which have a 12-month validity. If vouchers are not presented to SSGS within this period, then they will be invalidated. In the event of ties, count back will apply to establish voucher winners. Members can only win one prize per event.

Entries close 28 days prior to event at 12:00 noon.
Entries
Entry to all SSGS competitions will be ( 2025 Online entry form will be available in January 25)
Entries for each event close at midday 28 days prior to each event. If maximum field is exceeded at that time, then a ballot will be held, as per SSGS ballot procedures. Members unsuccessful in the ballot will be placed on a reserve list, in handicap order. Any entries received after closing date will be placed at bottom of reserve list on a first come basis, irrespective of handicap.
If maximum field has not been achieved at closing date, then entries will still be accepted on a first come basis until maximum field size is reached. Thereafter entries will be held on a reserve list based on date of receipt of entry.
Payment must be made at time of entry.. Payment will be via direct transfer into SSGS Bank account (our preferred method), with cheques or cash only accepted on an exceptional basis.
Match-Play Eligibillty
To be eligible to play in the either the Main Match-Play or Super Seniors Match-Play entrants must be either born in Scotland, have a Scottish born parent, or have been permanently resident in Scotland for a period of not less than five years, and be a member of a recognised golf club. In addition, you must not have played in a national closed competition nor have represented internationally a country other than Scotland.
SSGS 2025- MATCHPLAY FORMATS
MAIN SSGS MATCHPLAY (SCRATCH)
As you know we changed the format in 2023 and followed up with a survey
questionnaire to seek feedback from those that qualified and played, and those
that qualified but didn’t play. Only 15 of the 40 who played responded and 14
of the 22 who qualified by didn’t play responded.
Taking on board the survey feedback and comments made at the event we have made
some changes to the 2024 event format:
· The 2024 Champion will be the number 1 seed
and along with the other 31 players will be seeded from the OoM standings into
8 groups of 4, with the winners of each group going forward to the quarter-finals,
then semi-finals and final.

Day 1: Group games 1 & 2
Day 2: Group game 3 and 4 Quarter-Finals
Day 3: 2 Semi- Finals and Final
Group Ties for 1st place will be decided
on head-to-head, then holes up, and if needed by drawing of lots

Hopefully these changes will encourage all members to strive to qualify and
support this exciting event which will be played on a quality golf course, with
excellent clubhouse food and friendly service at Strathmore Golf Centre, who
continue to support SSGS which we very much appreciate.
SUPER SENIOR MATCHPLAY FORMAT
From 2024 there will also be a Scratch Matchplay competition in addition to
the usual Handicap Competition. Each competition will comprise of 8
qualifiers from the top of the respective Super Seniors Scratch and Handicap
Order of Merit tables following the completion of the Autumn Meeting at Ratho Park.. In
the event of a tie on OOM points, ranking will be decided by the number
of SSGS events played in. If still tied then ranking will be determined
by drawing of lots.
A Super Senior member can choose to play in either of the SS competitions or
the main Matchplay competition as determined from qualifying through the Main
OoM, or the Super Seniors Scratch OoM or Handicap OoM. Should a Super Senior
member elect to play in the main Matchplay, OoM points won will be added to
both the Main Scratch OoM and SS Scratch OoM tables.
The maximum handicap index that will apply for the knockout stages for the
Super Senior Handicap event will be 12.4
For each of the Super Senior’s competitions the format will be the same as this
year with all competitors playing a matchplay tie each day. The Champions will
therefore be decided on day 3 along with the Runners-up and positions 3rd to
8th.
• Order of Merit Points Awarded for both Scratch and Handicap competitions:
Winner:
250 points
Runner-up: 200 points
3rd: 175 points
4th: 150 points
5th: 125 points
6th: 100 points
7th: 75 points
8th: 50 points
The event will be played at Strathmore Golf Centre, and we
very much appreciate the continued support from Strathmore again next year.

Given the format, it is imperative that all qualifiers commit to playing on
each of the 3 days.

Draws
All successful entrants will be emailed 14 days prior to event, reminding them that they have entered event, and advising that draw will be conducted in 7 days. Any member who withdraws from event within this 7-day period will be eligible for refund of entry fee.
7 days prior to event draw will be conducted and sent to members. Any withdrawals after this date WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REFUND OF ENTRY FEE, IRRESPECTIVE OF REASON.
2 days before event draw will be amended to incorporate any late withdrawals. Any changes to original tee times published will be kept to a minimum where possible.
Inter Area Team Championships
The 16 areas as defined by the Scottish Golf Limited may enter a team for this one round scratch stroke play event.
Each team will comprise of six players, at least four of whom must be age 55 or over on the competition date, the remainder of whom must be 50 or over on that date.
Five scores will count with the sixth being used in event of a tie. If still tied, there will be a countback of the 6th

SUPER SENIORS TEAM MATCHES 2025
The Super Seniors Sub-Committee have been successful in arranging 3 team matches, against Wales, UK Senior Golf Association and Spain.
The dates of these matches in 2025 are:
WALES: Gullane Golf Links May 12th & 13th
UKSGA: Haggs Castle G.C September 1st & 2nd
SPAIN: El Saler G C (Spain) 6th to 9th October
Super Seniors team selection criteria
The Team Captain is Ian Brotherston
Team selection is, largely, based on position in the order of merit. Ian Brotherston, as team captain, however shall have the last word on selection. It is worth noting that although this 2025 team selection takes place before autumn meeting, international masters and match play the position in the 2025 order of merit will feed into selection for internationals early in the 2026 season.
Match v Wales at Gullane 12/13th May: 12 a-side
A 12-man team. Selection for this team is, largely, dependent on the order of merit results for 2024. The team will be selected on 1st May at the conclusion of the Tulliallan spring meeting.
Match v UKSGA at Haggs Castle G C on 1st & 2nd September: 10 a-side
A 10-man team that will be selected on 19th August at conclusion of Hamilton Autumn Meeting.
Match v Spain at El Saler G C (Spain) on 6th & 9th October: 12 a-side
A 12-man team. It is likely that 9 of the places will be identified at the conclusion of the seniors’ event at Powfoot on 18th July with the last 3 spots confirmed on 19th August at conclusion of Hamilton Autumn Meeting.
