SCOTTISH SENIORS GOLFING SOCIETY
WHAT IS THE SCOTTISH SENIORS GOLFING SOCIETY?
Formed in November 2006, the Scottish Seniors Golfing Society is the brainchild of former amateur internationalist, Gordon MacDonald and others (See Founding Fathers). It was formed to meet a significant demand for high level competition for senior amateur club golfers still keen to test their games at a high level.
We run a programme of events for players aged 50 and over with handicap index of 9.4 or less. These are principally 36 hole events played midweek at top quality venues with a maximum field of 129 players, as well as a match-play event and an inter-county team event. Our events are used to compile Scottish Golf Limited's Seniors Order of Merit.
We also run a series of stand alone 36 hole events for our members aged 65 and over (Super Seniors), as well as a limited series of 18 hole competitions over the winter period. Full details of our fixtures can be accessed via the “Competitions” tab above..
The standard of golf is high with many former Walker Cup and Scottish internationalists involved. All the events take place in a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere on very good courses. We now have a database of over 700 past and present members with whom we regularly communicate and our active paid-up membership now totals over 300
SSGS activities are run on an essentially volunteer basis supplemented by administration support at each event.
