The inaugural 3-day Masters event for 65-year-old and over concluded on Friday 3rd September. The final day’s weather was a bit cooler than the previous 2 days which had been played in warm Autumn sunshine. The standard of play throughout the week was high, on a course presented in excellent condition.
Ian Brotherston (Dumfries & County) lifted the Scratch trophy with a 3-round total of 6 under par 207, winning by 10 shots from John Fraser (Royal Burgess Golfing Society) with Douglas Cameron (Worthing Golf Club) in 3rd, a further shot back.
In the Handicap section, SSGS Vice-President Jim Kinloch won the trophy with 3 consistent rounds finishing with a net total of 204 (9 under par), winning by 5 shots from Martin Lee (Frilford Heath Golf Club), with Billy Mitchell (Hankley Common Golf Club) a further shot back in 3rd place.
