2016/17 Winter Series News
Message from Drew: Thanks to all who played in this years winter events, we had some touch and go moments particularly at Monifieth & Prestwick St Cuthbert but in the end all went well and we had our most successful season yet.
We are looking to possibly increase the number of events next year and any ideas thoughts would be appreciated.
Many thanks to Alasdair McGregor, Alex Hogg, Ian Kerr and Keith Ross for all the help throughout the series.
Good luck to all for the coming season.

1st April: After a close call in last years Order of Merit George Barrie (Callander) was a clear winner this year with 5 excellent counting events.
With a 4th place finish at Prestwick St Cuthbert Philip Hendry (Alloa) jumped into 2nd place above Neil McGarva (Kilmalcolm) and Colin Halcrow (Windyhill), Colin Major (Elgin) finished in 5th place only 2.75 points behind.
This was the 6th year of the SSGS winter events and the most successful with a 15% increase in entries

31st March : Gerry Smith (Royal Troon) produced an excellent Stableford points total of 39 in blustery conditions at Prestwick St Cuthbert for the final Scottish Senior Golfing Society's final winter competition.
Smith was closely followed by Ian Kerr (Kilmacolm) with 38 points. Kevin McArthur (Balbirnie Park) finished third on 37 points. The overall winner of the winter series is George Barrie (Callander).
27th March: After another good finish at Drumoig George Barrie (Callander) has won the 2017 Winter Order of Merit with 1 Event still to play.
It is still close for the other top places with 10 points covering the next 4 players, Neil McGarva (Kilmalcolm) moves into 2nd place with another top 5 finish at Drumoig.
Colin Halcrow (Windyhill) and Philip Hendrix (Alloa) move down to 3rd and 4th place 4 and 5 points adrift of 2nd place. With 5 of the 7 events counting Colin Major (Elgin) can move up with a good finish at Prestwick St Cuthbert.

24th March. In a very close competition at Drumoig, last man out Gary Tough (Edzell) edged out David Halkerston by 1 point with an impressive 41 points. . Drumoig was in excellent condition with fast running fairways and greens, and this is reflected in the scoring of the majority of players.
The last of the winter events will be held next week at Prestwich St Cuthbert.

18th March: The 5th of this years events was played at Monifieth which was in excellent condition in particular the slick greens. The expected bad weather did not materialise and only the late starters had a light drizzle.
Colin Maverick (Elgin) won with 39 points beating Iain Simpson (Crieff), David Millar (New Club) and Gary Tough (Edzell) on 38 points. We now move on the Drumoig next Friday.
20 Feb: Draw for Monifieth on 17th March now available.
Rob Craw leads George Barrie by less than 1 point in this years Order of Merit, 8 of the top 10 are playing hoping to close the gap on both.
With the 5 best scores out of 7 counting every event will be keenly contested this year.

31st January 2017: Entries for winter events are well up on last year and only a few spaces left for some events. Anyone wishing to play please enter asap which will let us try for additional tee times if possible.
7th November: Philip Hendry wins at The Carrick with 37 points with George Barrie and Graeme Belch runners up on 35 points. Full report and results and current OOM standings can be viewed by clicking on links below.
ALSO NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE FOR 2017: Largs golf Club has been replaced by Drumoig for the winter event scheduled for next March. See fixture page for details. If you have already entered then you will be contacted and offered a refund if required.

We are once again running a series of 18 hole (non qualifying) stableford competitions over the winter period

Fields will be limited to 40 competitors and each event will be on a first come first served basis.
The Order of Merit winner this year will qualify for the SGU champion of champions at the end of season.
