Congratualtions to new SSGS Member, Robert Jenkins (Royal Troon), who made a wonderful start to his senior career by winning the Spanish Seniors Open Amateur Championship at Las Colinas on Sunday, 12th February.

Robert finished one shot ahead of England’s Ian Crowther and a strong field with a winning aggregate of 214 (70, 70 & 74).

Robert who only turned 50 in December 2016 has set as wonderful benchmark for himself with a victory in his first major senior event.

Robert was joined in the last day’s play by fellow SSGS members David Shields, Lindsay Gordon and Ian Jeen.

Ian Jeen however didnt come away empty handed, winning the handicap event (which is based on 1st 2 rounds) with a net aggregate of 142.

In the pairs event, the SSGS pairing of Lindsay Gordon and Duncan Hamilton finished a credible tied 3rd.

Congratulations to Robert and Ian on their success.

Ian Brotherston named as Captain of Scottish Senior Men’s team

SSGS member Ian Brotherston has been named by Scottish Golf Limited (SGL) as Scottish Senior Men’s team captain for 2017. Ian was a member of the team that won the Senior Men’s European Amateur Team championship in Slovenia in September and also played in the team that won the Home Internationals at North Berwick in 2014.

Ian is well qualified to take on the role of Captain, having played under 3 different Captains as well as winning eight national championships around Europe since joining the Senior ranks. He is a regular winner of our own events and has won the Order of Merit and Match Play titles.

We wish Ian well in his quest to add more titles to what is already an impressive list.
