Charity Donations 2018

Friday, 17 August 2018

Oct 2018

This season we decided to have a bucket at each of our events to try and squeeze some money out of our members to be donated to The British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK. Thanks to your generosity, we have rounded up the sum raised to £800 of which we will donate half to each charity. The £400 donation to The British Heart Foundation has been made in memory of Tom Gray, a long standing member who died recently, in fact only two days after competing in our Super Seniors' event at Forfar.  I think this epitomises our Society in particular the closeness, camaraderie and friendship which has developed between our members over the years since our inception. Many thanks to you all for your generosity.

Super Seniors Autumn Meeting 2018

Autumn Meeting 23rd/24th August Downfield G C

Monday, 13 August 2018

No place like home for Graham Bell, winner of autumn meeting at Downfield

Graham Bell (Downfield) and Derek Paton (Dunnikier Park) led the field at the end of the first round and they were still there in first and second places after the second and final round of our autumn meeting at Downfield Golf Club, Dundee.
Graham, playing over his home course, headed a field of well over 100 with so-steady rounds of 70 and 71 for a three-under-par total of 141. His winning margin would have been greater but, after birdieing the 10th, 11th and 12th in his second round, he bogeyed the 17th and 18th holes.
Derek, the only danger, left himself with mission impossible after bogeying the second, third and fifth in his second round. He did recover a bit to birdie the fourth, 11th, 12th and 14th, finishing with rounds of 70 and 73 for 143.
Ronnie Clark (Erskine) bounced back from a double bogey 6 at the first to birdie the second, fourth, 13th and 15th in coming through to fill third place on 145 (73-72).

Derek did however have the consolation of topping the Handicap section with a Net score of 141, with Duncan Hamilton (Mortonhall) second 3 shots behind on 144.

CSS on both days was 74.

South of Scotland Open 26th & 27th July

Stewart Henderson wins South Senior Open by seven strokes with a pair of 66s

Hamilton's Stewart Henderson outclassed the field in the South of Scotland Senior Open over 36 holes at Dumfries and County to win the title by seven shots.
Stewart shot two brilliant rounds of three-under-par 66 for a total of 132. His halves were 37-29 in the first round and 35-31 in the second.
Former shinty star John Fraser (Royal Burgess) was the distant runner-up with scores of 67 (32-35) and 72. A double bogey at the fifth after bogeys at the third and fourth in his second round killed his hopes of staying in touch with Stewart.
Ronnie Clark (Erskine) (71-71) and Malcolm Reid (Sonning) (70-72) finished joint third.

In the Handicap section local player Graeme Sharp (Playing off 4) enjoyed a victory on his home course with a Net total of 135, beating Stewart Henderson by 1. In joint 3rd place were George Rodaks (Pitreavie) and Brian Halbert (Callander) on 138.

In the Super Seniors section, John Fraser won the Scratch with his 139, and George Rodaks  and Brian Halbert shared  the Net with a score of 138.
