2019 Matchplay 8-12 July Turriff Golf Club

Stewart Henderson (Hamilton) is the new SSGS Matchplay Champion after overcoming holder Ronnie Clark (Erskine) 3&2 in this afternoon's final. A fuller report will be updated later

12th July: In this mornings semi finals, 2 close matches were played out. Defending champion Ronnie Clark defeated Norman Dyce by 1 hole, and the same margin emerged in the 2nd match, with Stewart Henderson emerging winner against Paul Moultrie.

DENIS McQUADE WINS SUPER SENIORS MATCH-PLAY. Denis overcame defending champion George Rodaks this morning in a keenly contested final. The match was close all the way with Denis taking a 1 hole lead into the 18th. He held his nerve to win th ehole and the match, 2 Up. Well played and congratulations to Denis, and hard luck George.

Central Scotland Open 4th/5th July Stirling

Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon), romps to a 9 shot victory at the Central Open at Stirling, with a total 135. His first round 65 (including an albatross 2), is believed to have equalled the course record at Stirling (awaiting confirmation). In second place on 144 was his fellow Royal Troon member, Robert Jenkins who pipped Ronnie Clark (Erskine) as a result of a better 2nd round on countback. Great shooting from Paul over the 2 days.

It should also be mentioned that Ian Smith (Gullane) had a hole in 1 at the par 3 10th.

In the handicap event, Paul also shot the best Nett score with a 137, but as cannot win 2 prizes, the award of 1st place goes to Ken Thomson (Bramhall Park) with a Nett 141, winning by a 3 shot margin from Keith Reilly (Silverknowes) who edged out George Barrie (Callander) for 2nd place as a result of better 2nd round. Also on 144 were Keith Ross (Glasgow) and Andrew Aitken (Stirling).

The next meeting of the S.S.G.S. committee will be held on Monday 24th June at Drumpellier G.C. as is likely to be the last meeting prior to this year's A.G.M. at Nairn G.C. on Thursday 22nd August.

East of Scotland Open 2019 3/4th June Strathmore

Scott Michie (Kinross G C) has maiden win at East of Scotland Open at Strathmore.

Neish Chisholm (Kemnay G C) wins handicap section.

Scott Michie had his maiden SSGS victory over the well presented Strathmore course on 3rd & 4th of June. With high winds on day 1 scoring was difficult with the CSS rising by 3 to 74. Scott’s 76 was 6 behind overnight leader Robert Smith (Nairn) who shot an excellent 70 in the conditions. Scott however a super 69 on day 2 (Including a hole in 1), gave him an overall total of 145, pipping Robert by 1 shot. In joint 3rd place on 148 were previous OOM winners Ronnie Clark (Erskine) and Stewart Henderson (Hamilton).

In the handicap section, Neish Chisholm (Kemnay), with an excellent 2nd round Net score of 67, and a total of 142, emerged the winner by 1 shot from Scott Michie and Gordon Black (Royal Burgess) on 143.

An excellent 2 days at the Perthshire course, which was well presented and in superb condition.

CSS for day 1 was 74, and on day 2 73.

 

Presidents Cup 2019

Ian Brotherston wins inaugural Presidents Cup at Blairgowrie with a total of 144 (1 over par). 

Vice Presidents Cup for Super Seniors won by Keith Bruce (Edzell) with a gross total of 146.

Handicap winner was Jim Emslie (Royal Aberdeen) with a net total of 140, the same score as Neish Chisholm (Kemnay), however Jim takes Bronze Medal due to better last round.
