Central Scotland Open - 2nd & 3rd July 2015

Monday, 29 June 2015

3rd July: CSS for round 1 was 73.  Round 2 was 73. Full scores can be viewed on competition's page.

In a very tight finish at Glenbervie, the holder Ronnie Clark (Erskine) tied with Duncan Hamilton (Mortonhall) on 142. They finished one shot ahead of Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) and Lindsay Blair (Grangemouth) on 143.

Duncan Hamilton sprang from the chasing pack with a superb second score of 68 which included an inward half of 33 to set a target of 142. Paul Moultrie reached the turn in 33 and looked set to better this but came home in 40 due to some putting lapses.

That left Ronnie Clark playing in the last group and bidding for a hat-trick of wins in this event. He overcame a lost ball at the 11th hole to return a 72 and tie with Hamilton.

Laurie Chancellor (Inverness) took fifth place on 145 with former internationals, George Barrie (Callander) and Ian Brotherston (Dumfries and County) in joint sixth place on 146.

Lindsay Blair had the added consolation of the main handicap prize, just pipping local favourite, Denis McQuade and George Barrie.

Glenbervie was in superb condition and presented an excellent test for all the players.

Nest stop Stirling for the Match-Play championships.

East of Scotland Open - 4th & 5th June

Thursday, 04 June 2015

Downfield was in excellent condition for the 2 days and for
once we were blessed with decent weather, which was appreciated by all players.

124 players teed off on the Thursday and at the end of the 2 days Bob Stewart from Tulliallan emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins of 1 shot. Bob's rounds of 2 over par 74 and 1 under 71 total 145 pipped the pairing of Nick Robson (Meldrum House) and Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) who had a very creditable total of 146.

On the handicap side Murray Ferguson (Stirling Golf Club) was a clear winner by 4 shots with an aggregate net total of 139, some 9 shots below the combined CSS of 148. (Round 1 74, Round 2 74).

North of Scotland Open - Elgin 21/22 May

Thursday, 21 May 2015

The North of Scotland Open was held at Elgin Golf Club on 21/22nd May. The course was presented in great condition and made the more tricky over the 2 days by a strong breeze which tested the players.

CSS for Round 1 - 73, Round 2 - 73

The winner with a aggregate gross score of 146 against a combined CSS of 146 was Ronnie Clark from Erskine Golf Club, playing off +3 handicap. This despite having to play with a borrowed driver on both days following an unfortunate accident in the car park on day 1 when someone accidently ran over Ronnie's clubs.

In the handicap competition, 2 superb rounds of net 71 and 70 allowed Douglas Greenhalgh, New Golf Club St Andrews to emerge a close winner by 1 stroke. Playing off a handicap of 12 this will ensure a good handicap cut for Dougie.

Congratulations to Ronnie and Dougie. Full results are available via the competitions page and a fuller report will follow in due course.
