Captains newsletter May 2020 and Coronavirus Update

Tuesday, 23 June 2020

1st August:  SCOTTISH GOLF AUTHORISE OUR EVENTS

We are permitted now to hold our events but only as NON-QUALIFYING for handicaps, to comply with Government criteria. We can still enjoy competitive golf playing for vouchers. Full details updated on undenoted document, and email sent to all members today.

31 July Update: Forfar has been confirmed and Lundin Links has been replaced by Leven Golf Links, on same dates. Document has been updated. We are awaiting final confirmation from Scottish Golf and Government that we can go ahead, albeit may not be qualifying for handicap purposes. We will confirm and update to members in next few days.

13th July:

SSGS MINI TOUR 2020

Following on from members suggesting we run some events due to the improving pandemic situation, we asked for member feedback and received a positive response.

We have therefore organised 5 events to take place during late August, September, and early October.

This is of course subject to our previously laid out criteria for competitive golf being met at each individual venue, and Scottish Golf permission to run “Open events”. Currently Open Competitions are not allowed, and we have no confirmation that approval will be granted in time for our first, or subsequent events.

Committee Vacancy

Tuesday, 19 May 2020

Ronnie Clark Co-opted to SSGS Committee.

Further to the Constitution changes approved at last year's A.G.M., we have yet to receive any nomination for the newly created post of Communications Officer.

A proposal from Ian Kerr, to replace the post of Communications Officer with the current Captain of the Scottish Seniors International Teams, providing he was a member of the S.S.G.S. , has met with unanimous Committee approval.

This proposal is a further change to the Constitution and will be included on the agenda of the next A.G.M. for approval as and when restrictions allow this to be staged.

Ronnie Clark, as the current Scottish Senior Captain, has accepted our invitation to fill this post.  It is our intention to co-opt Ronnie, with immediate effect,  until such times as the creation of this new post and in turn his appointment, can be  ratified by the membership.

The Committee see this as positive step forward in the continuing evolvement of the Society and we look forward to Ronnie's input over the coming months.

Keith Ross.

Captain.
