Non SSGS Events.
A number of our members take part in events all over Europe. We will keep you up to date on any of their successes during the year.
With effect from 1st January 2016 the European Golf Association (EGA) which runs a number of prestigious tournaments in Europe have reduced their qualifying age from 55 to 50. This should allow more SSGS members to take part in these events.
Nov 2015: Duncan Hamilton tastes success in the Land of Oz.
Duncan Hamilton from Mortonhall G.C. whilst on a visit to Australia last November, decided to test his skills against his fellow seniors in Western Australia. I’ll let Duncan explain in his own words: “I have just returned from a month in Perth, Western Australia, where I won one of their 9 annual Seniors Open Tournaments, which make up their annual order of merit, for selection for the WA team. The tournament was the Lake Karrinyup Seniors Open on Friday 13th November, where one of the European /Asian co-sanctioned tour events is held. I shot 75, in very windy conditions, with the temperature reaching 37 Celsius (100 degrees) during the round. I won on a count-back from Paul Chappell of Hartfield Golf Club, who plays off +2.”
Good to know that SSGS members can travel the world and keep up the good name of Seniors Golf in Scotland. Well done to Duncan from all at SSGS.
June 2015: Ian Brotherston wins in Scandinavia. Stuart Black close second.
Ian Brotherston (Dumfries & County) and Stuart Black (Cathcart Castle) came first and second respectively at last week’s Scandinavian Seniors Open Championship, played at PGA Sweden National from 25 to 27 June.
Ian produced a 3 over par total of 219 to win by three shots from Stuart to add to his growing collection of Continental Seniors titles.
Congratulations to Ian and Stuart on their fine performances
