John Johnston and Excel guru Alan Nelson have created a spreadsheet that tracks player performance throughout the season. They quite rightly identify that the Order of Merit covers only the top performances but there are many members who would like to benchmark their own deeds against CSS and selected fellow members.
Members were asked to express an interest in this additional information and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
In conjunction with the player statistics it has been decided to produce a net order of merit to maintain member interest throughout the playing season
Our five regional opens plus the Spring meeting will be the counting events and contenders will need to compete in a minimum of three of those to appear in the final table.
At the moment we are looking at the prospects of having an end of season "shoot out" to mirror the scratch version and we would need to know the level of interest in that before committing to a venue. It is anticipated that would take place in early October over a centrally located course.
Points will be allocated to the top 20 net returms (and ties)
Two additional pages track individuals' gross and net performance against CSS for the counting events. These will highlight consistency and hopefully offer visible reward for those who narrowly miss out on the main scoreboards.
The systems have been developed by our excellent member Alan Nelson.
