This is the front page for all events run by SSGS. Most information is on the sub-menu and here we show current topics affecting the general running of our events.  Please also check out the photos on our 2011 Gallery.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you require to contact the Secretaries for any reason regarding your entry please  email  scottishseniorsgolfingsociety@ntlworld.com under copy to khnextlevel@aol.com

If for any reason you have to withdraw at a late stage could you please telephone the clubhouse and leave a message for Dorothy and Bill, explaining the circumstances.  in addition please email to scottishseniorsgolfingsociety@ntlworld.com confirming the telephone call and the reasons for non-appearance.  In the case of an oversubscribed entry, unexplained absence deprives another member of a place. There are often players on standby pending spaces becoming available.

If for any reason you require to pull out after round 1 please report the circumstamces to Dorothy and Bill. It is unfair on partners to leave them in a two ball without good reason and the Committee will consider exclusion from the following event where there is no good explanation given. In addition, absence without explanation will automatically place the player at the foot of the following ballot.

Suspension of Play during dangerous situations. Rule of Golf 6-8b apply. Briefly, where a group is between holes when play is suspended they must not resume until the Committee has ordered a resumption of play. Where a hole has been started they may elect to stop immediately or complete that hole. They must then discontinue play until resumption is ordered.

Players have the option of lifting their balls having marked the position and taking shelter in the clubhouse or mother safe refuge.

SSGS specific arrangements. Where there is threat of electrical activity Committee members playing around the course will carry air horns. A burst of five short blasts signals suspension of play. A series of three short blasts indicates resumption.

 Pace of Play

Committee is conscious of the need to keep play moving at a decent pace as we hand the courses back to our host clubs with play resuming 30 minutes after our last tee time. Generally there is not a problem although. towards the end of play we have recently seen times well in excess of our target 3 hours 50 minutes. This has resulted in club members being held up.

We are looking at guidelines which will help achieve target times for the greater enjoyment of all on the course.

Competition Ballots

 Points considered

  • Maximum fields of 120 will be exceeded from time to time
  • It is neither practical nor fair to increase entry numbers using volunteer administrators as their day already stretches to 12 hours 7.30am- 7.30pm
  • Ballot system and reserve list/standby rules must be fair and we must be able to demonstrate that fairness. We have to differentiate between under and over 55s in the ballot system because of the 20% maximum rule
  • Members travelling a distance usually travel in twos and threes and arrange accommodation together

Rules for ballot in the event of over subscribed tournaments

1         Where the maximum entry level of 120 is exceeded a ballot system will be employed.

2         This ballot system will operate on two separate lists, under 55s and over 55s

3         The under 55s ballot will ensure the AGM resolution that "under 55s comprise no more than 20% of a maximum field" is enforced

4         Those balloted out will form the two reserve lists and will have the opportunity of a) withdrawing from or b) remaining on the lists

5         Those remaining on the two reserve lists will be given the opportunity to join the field, in order of their handicaps, if spaces become available before the tournament date.

6         That opportunity will be on a like-for-like basis i.e. if an over 55 advises his withdrawal before the event then the person at the head of the over 55s list would replace him. The same rule would apply to the under 55s unless the person at the head of the over 55s list had a lower handicap in which case he would obtain the vacant place.

7         Those players remaining on the two reserve lists who have not gained a place through withdrawal of another player before the date of the event are free to attend the event as standby players. They will require to register with the administrators on arrival and will be treated on a first come first served basis, irrespective of handicap.  If a standby player is required to leave before the last tee time, he should advise the administrators of his intention to do so in which case the next inline will move up.

8         It is a strict rule that, if a standby player does not receive a cancellation place during the event, he will not be permitted to compete at the end of the field.

Note: Any player not gaining a place in the field will receive full refund of entry fee.

NOTICE to MEMBERS Jan 2009

We have had a good flow of new members since the end of last season. With that increase we anticipate mostly full fields and so, to be fair to everyone, we have moved in line with Scottish Golf Union and firmed up on the rules for entry.

Therefore from the first event in 2009 the following will apply:

§         Closing dates will from now on mean precisely that and will be 28 days before each event. Over-subscribed entries will be subject to ballot on the basis of handicap at date of entry submission.

§         In any case where there is not a full field we shall advise that fact through the website and, exceptionally, take further entries on a first come, first served basis with priority given to paid up members

§         We shall not accept requests for changed times on the second day to meet  players' other commitments. This causes resentment when a two-ball is left and members are asked to bear this in mind when requesting a particular time slot.

§         Lateness for tee times will be subject to the penalties laid out in the R & A rules.

§         The championship committee for each event has final discretion in applying these conditions.

§         We'd be obliged if you could advise any fellow members who do not have regular Internet access about these conditions which we hope you will appreciate are in the best interests of all competitors.
