Happy New Year to all fellow members.(from SSGS Captain John Johnston)
Here we are in 2011 and to those who have undergone surgery or treatment (and I can think of a few) I hope you are recovering well and will be raring to go come Powfoot on 28th April.
It has been a while since we gathered in any numbers - probably last August which seems a ridiculous gap. Since then there have been some events such as Finals Day at Landsdowne in glorious sunshine, The Counties Teams at West Kilbride in a monsoon with Arran looking ominous and majestic, plus Spain at the end of October where a merry band of 35 had a great time, on and off the course. This highlights the gap between seasons, however two things have happened recently which may help bridge that gap in future:-
- In a fit of enthusiasm and camaraderie in Spain, Drew Wilson volunteered to arrange three pre season "friendlies" - so I hope they'll be well supported - dates are on the website.
- Purely by accident, with the British being moved by the R&A we had to reschedule the Powfoot event and it leapfrogged forward to 28th April - only 12 weeks away.......................................................continued

XOS Scottish Golf Awards Dinner
As in the past our top three on the OOM have been invited as guests of the SGU to the annual SGU dinner and presentation of awards which this year will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow on Friday 18th February . Champion Tony Stafford will receive his SGU/SSGS Order of Merit Trophy. Tony will be joined by 2nd and 3rd placed players, Scott Macdonald and Jim Watt.
The SSGS has been in the habit of making up a table of ten and paying 50% of the ticket price (£65 this year). The Captain and Vice Captain will be expected to attend and there remain five further seats for members on the same basis. If you are interested in applying can you please email Jim and Peter on scottishseniorsgolfingsociety@ntlworld.com. cc to john.johnston@woodgroup.com . We appreciate that the date coincides with our first WInter Stableford event at The Glen but, in case of over-subscription, applications will be allocated on a first come first served basis by 3rd february.
Hear Ye Hear Ye. Less than 10 spaces left for The Glen and the long term forecast from Wilson Meteorological services is for a high centred over the Bass Rock. ENTRY FORMS and full details on WINTER EVENTS Page. Don't miss out!
Positive news from Colin Moir. Our far travelled regular has been going through a tough time health wise but is now optimistic of returning soon to the banter and competitive fray. We all join Captain John Johnston in "haste ye back Colin" See "Around the SSGS" Page
Winter Activity. Suggestion from the super enthusiast Drew Wilson
"From the various discussions and debates during Murcia Week it seems there may be enough members wishing to take part in a close-season alliance type event"
Please indicate your interest and any suggestions through the Forum. Initially we might have three one rounders, best two scores to count, over seaside venues.
QUESTIONS
1. Would you take part?
2. How far would you travel?
3. How much would you pay for entry?
4. Strokeplay/ Stableford?

2011 FIXTURES NOW ONSITE! See Season's Fixtures Page
A couple of significant changes to come into effect from the start of season 2011.
1. Due to the pressure of entry numbers we had dropped the maximum handicap for new members from 12.4 to 7.4. This threat has receded for the meantime and the limit has been revised upwards to 9.4.
2. Instead of the allocation of Order of Merit points down to 15th for our 36 hole events they will now be extended to 20th and ties.
2nd Nov. A mole known only as the Murcia Tweeter has submitted his potted version of the week's goings-on. Presumably he or she wishes to avoid litigation- See Murcia Seniors Open page.
Tullibardine extend sponsorship. See Sponsors and friends page for news of a developing relationship with this high quality producer of malt whisky.
